Working with Jyarland as a racial equity coach has helped me to think more strategically about how local governments in predominately white, rural areas can be more intentional and inclusive on issues related to race.

Jyarland made immeasurable contributions to Mercy school in her work with students and faculty/staff. The deep trust that she was able to cultivate with our entire community made all the difference in our diversity and inclusion work.

Jyarland has an excellent command of race issues in the US. Her time studying and living in other countries has contributed greatly to her unique perspective. In early 2020, Jyarland was invited to join the Board of Trustees of Youth For Understanding USA (YFU), the intercultural exchange program through which she first gained significant global exposure. This was undoubtedly one of the best decisions that was made during my tenure as President and CEO at YFU.”

At Earlham College Jyarland was offered the rare invitation by students to continue her power dialog and visit two residential Theme Houses - Spectrum (LGBTQ+) and Women of Color. She listened to students' concerns and provided candid and applicable advice that awed and empowered students to think and respond differently to the microaggressions they encountered in the classroom and on campus.
