mission

Harriet Speaks Consulting provides high schools, colleges, universities, nonprofits, and businesses –from Fortune 500 companies to niche startups –with training, coaching, and support to address anti-black racism, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

To better understand our mission, you need go no further than the woman who inspired our name, Harriet Tubman. Known primarily as the architect of the escape route that delivered fugitive slaves to freedom, Tubman was more than an abolitionist, she was a suffragist and anti-poverty activist whose democratic vision included all Americans. In our own modest way, we like to think that we are continuing her work, rooted in first liberating oneself, liberating ones’ community, and then advocating for others.

Inspired by the boldness, courage, and persistence of Harriet Tubman, Harriet Speaks helps organizations and individuals map their route to a brighter future by pointing out the constellation that leads to a more diverse, fair and inclusive workplace and society.

Equal parts interlocutor and demolition experts, Harriet Speaks reopens those lines of communication, and tears down the walls that divide us, allowing us to create communities that thrive when everyone’s voice is heard and appreciated. We accomplish that through dialogue and constructive criticism that might sometimes be uncomfortable but is always honest, respectful, and focused on strengthening trust among people, which is necessary to create transformative approaches to address longstanding problems.
